Orbit Communication Systems, specializes in ground, airborne and maritime communications, satellite tracking, and ground-station technology. Orbit's systems are utilized on a wide range of platforms, including mission aircraft, trainers, rotary-wing aircraft, transport vessels, tankers, jet fighters and unmanned platforms. Orbit's reach extends to naval vessels, armored land platforms, cruise ships, ground stations, and offshore platforms, providing coverage across maritime and terrestrial domains.
Orbit Communication Systems provides communication and tracking solutions for commercial operators, air forces, navies, space agencies, and New Space companies. Orbit is publicly traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange and is controlled by the FIMI Investment Fund. It operates a subsidiary in Florida, USA, responsible for production, integration, and support in North America. Orbit's global operations include marketing, sales, and customer service across Europe and the Far East.
The company's customers include major aircraft manufacturers, air forces and over 27 navies worldwide, large integrators and companies such as: Airbus, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Collins Aerospace; communication service providers such as: Inmarsat, Leonardo, Telespazio, Eutelsat, SES, Gilat, L3Harris, . Additionally, it serves organizations involved in space observation, including: ImageSat and European space agencies, along with other security and government organizations.

[עריכת קוד מקור | עריכה]The company was incorporated in March 1950 in Israel as a cooperative association under the name "Wireless, Electricity and Radio Cooperative Netanya Ltd." In January 1988, the company's securities were issued on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange . In April 2010, the company's name was changed to its current name (Orbit Communication Systems). The controlling shareholder of the company is the FIMI Fund . The chairman of the company's board of directors as of December 2017 is Yitzhak Gat and the company's CEO as of February 2020 is Daniel Ashhar.
Orbit's operations are carried out through its subsidiary, Orbit Communication Systems Ltd., and its affiliated subsidiaries. The following description refers to the activities of all these companies.
As of the end of 2019, they employed 184 people.
The company's products, intended for the defense and civilian markets, include:
- Broadband satellite communication systems for mobile platforms (land, sea and airborne).
- Tracking, communication and telemetry systems between mobile and stationary platforms, satellites, aircraft, UAVs and missiles .
- Audio communication management systems (AMS) for aircraft: Management of communication between aircraft crew members and their communication with external parties.
The products comply with the US Military Standard (MIL-STD) and other standards. Most of the company's products (approximately 65% in 2019) are intended for export. Some of this export is required to comply with the provisions of the Defense Export Control Law .
